Pune: A gang of men early on Monday morning broke the glass windows of six cars parked alongside a road in Chinchwad and stole smart infotainment systems worth over Rs 1 lakh in total.
An officer from the Chinchwad police said four car owners have approached them to file complaints. “We have registered an FIR under Section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC),” the officer said.
One of the complainants, 67-year-old Philip Nazareth, a resident of Jeevannagar in Dhoka Colony of Chinchwad, told TOI, “For the past few days, work on laying concrete is going on in the lane. Due to this, we cannot bring our vehicles inside the society premises. So, we had no option but to park our cars along the road. The spot where the cars were parked does not have CCTV camera coverage.”
Nazareth said that on Monday morning, he found the glass window on the driver’s side of his car shattered. “I had installed a branded infotainment system inside, which was stolen. Later, I found out that such systems from four more cars were looted using the same modus operandi,” Nazareth said.
An officer from the Chinchwad police said that prima facie, they believe this to be the handiwork of local miscreants.
