The next step in telematics

Warrington, UK: The growing use of telematics systems on refrigerated trailers is opening up a raft of new possibilities, says Alan Hunt, managing director, sales and marketing, at reefer maker Schmitz Cargobull.

“The next TrailerConnect [Schmitz Cargobull’s telematics system] update will include tyre temperature monitoring, pallet tracking, route deviation and internal load monitoring,” he said, responding to interview questions in the November issue of Cold Chain News.

“Schmitz Cargobull’s TrailerConnect is continually looking to improve the features and usability of the telematics system. To improve load and driver security the latest door locking system is integrated in the frame of the trailer and can be operated via an app or the telematics system with a PIN number. The geofence feature is linked to the door locking system, which enables the doors to lock/unlock when entering or leaving a specified location,” he said.

The Schmitz Cargobull BeSmart app was created for the driver, allowing them (via the trailer Wifi) to operate several functions on the trailer from the app, therefore eliminating the need for the driver to leave the vehicle, improving driver safety, he said.
