BHOPAL: With an objective of promoting eco-friendly transport, Bhopal railway division has decided to set-up charging stations for electric vehicles. Electric vehicles will be available at Bhopal station from next week.
Bhopal railway division officials said that a sufficient number of electric vehicles will be available at the railway station.
Talking about the new facility, DRM Bhopal, Saurabh Bandopadhyay said that this is a big step in the direction of providing environment-friendly transport. “With this, Bhopal division has become the first station in the West Central Railway zone to have such a facility,” Bandopadhyay said. He added that under the new innovative Non-Fare Revenue Consideration Scheme (NINFRIS) policy, the facility of electric vehicle charging station at Bhopal station and the service of electric vehicles on rent will be available.
Senior divisional commercial manager, Bhopal, Vijay Prakash said that charging stations for electrical vehicles is an eco-friendly project having a lesser carbon footprint and positive effect on the environment.
“Availability of electrical charging facility at Bhopal station will help EV owners to charge their vehicle,” said Prakash. About the facility, Prakash said that passengers at Bhopal station can hire electrical vehicles that vwill reduce pollution and improve air quality of the city. “Vehicles will be charged Rs 18 per unit and electrical vehicles will be hired at Rs 16 per km,” added Prakash.
The Non-Fare Revenue initiative will also fetch annual earnings of Rs 2.5 lakh apart from encouraging passengers to use electrical vehicles, he added. Notably, new ideas and concepts are being promoted to increase Non-Fare Revenue (NFR) by monetizing the assets of Indian Railways and undertaking revenue generating activities. In this direction, this new innovative Non-Rent Revenue Idea Scheme (NINFRIS) is working under the prescribed guidelines.
