Electric Vehicles & Road Trips: Consider This

Earlier this year, President Biden’s administration announced a plan to create 500,000 new electric vehicle charging stations.

But for now, if you’re considering an electric car, you need to consider that electric vehicle charging networks are not widespread and can be plagued with reliability issues.

A recent analysis found that states like Vermont and California have large charging networks with more than 100 charging points for every 100,000 vehicles.

While Alabama, Alaska, and Louisiana are severely lacking in charging stations. It works out to less than nine stations per 100,000 cars.

This may explain why a cross-country road trip by electric car remains somewhat of a challenge.

For the moment, it’s one thing to run out of gas because at least you have options. But if you run out of juice, always consider the charging networks within your state or the availability along your route before leaving home.
