SHELBURNE — Catamount Traders’ “Gasless” exhibition looks to spark public interest with its display of electric vehicles and bicycles on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Gasless takes place during National Drive Electric Week. According to event organizer Kay Jay, the show will feature a “static display” of battery-powered cars, bikes, riding mowers and hand tools. Attendees at Catamount Traders, located at 874 Mohawk Trail (Route 2) will have an opportunity to “easily and safely access vehicles, sit in them, and learn from owners about vehicle features and performance.”

“With news of climate calamity and political efforts to address it at the national level gridlocked, the public is motivated to address the situation through personal action,” Jay wrote in an email. “One of the most effective actions is to make changes in their transportation choices.”

In addition to its focus on electric vehicles for National Drive Electric Week, the event looks to promote the usage of bicycles by participating in Baystate Bike Month.

“Bicycling offers an alternative to using a 2,000-pound vehicle to fetch a gallon of milk and promotes health and personal connection with our communities,” Jay wrote. “Our promotion of Baystate Bike Month is an extension of our support for the reduction of fossil fuels in our lives.”

Jay also said Sunday’s event will promote “ways to reduce one’s residential carbon footprint through the use of solar power.”

Jay hopes representatives from related organizations and state-level politics will attend Gasless.

“Two state representatives have expressed interested in attending, but have not confirmed scheduling yet,” Jay said. “Representatives of Greenfield Solar and East Branch Homes will share strategies for reducing the use of fossil fuels at home.”

The outdoor event will be held regardless of weather and is free to attend. Questions can be emailed to stateofcharge@gmail.com.
